The 2nd Annual Oktoberfest, presented by The Woodlands Rotary Club Foundation, is set for September 24-26 at Town Green Park in The Woodlands.

Oktoberfest will feature live entertainment, a delicious selection of German food including bratwurst, sauerkraut and strudel, beverages and a kid’s activity area. Oktoberfest beer mugs and souvenirs will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $10 for ages 10 and older and free for ages 9 and younger. Sponsorships are available for organizations, companies and individuals wanting to participate.

Oktoberfest proceeds will go to The Woodlands Rotary Club Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization raising funds for scholarships benefiting local students and their families.

We saw the impact of the first-time homebuyer tax expiration last month on written contracts. Now, the market is moving back into the annual seasonal curve. Inventory levels always peak in July. Realtors showing active listings to prospective buyers(showings) continue at a high level. Listings that meet the “ideal” definition are receiving multiple offers. Ideal still is defined as realistic price, location, and condition.

The South Montgomery County YMCA announces there is limited space still available for the 2010 YMCA Dragon Boat Team Challenge “Presented by Hewitt”. The 3 day event will be held at Northshore Park and Lake Woodlands, September 24 – 26. Are you looking for a unique, fun and easy team building outing? YMCA Dragon Boat is for you. The YMCA does all the planning and facilitating . . . all you have to do is recruit your team and show up ready to play. A team is composed of a minimum of 20 members but no more than 30. Each team roster must have a minimum of 5 females and participants must be at least 18 years of age. High School teams, 9th – 12th grade, are eligible to participate in the Sunday morning bracket: 8:00am – Noon.

This exciting team building event is designed to build community spirit among corporations, civic groups and community organizations. The activities are designed to bring individuals together to achieve a single goal – To Have FUN! They achieve this by becoming a team and working together as a synchronized unit. It’s much more than “beating the other team.” It is the camaraderie, the team work and team spirit, visiting and playing with old friends, meeting new friends and laughing. The Dragon Boat Races are the main event. Dragon boats are forty foot long, extremely, colorful dragon headed canoes and weigh over 1800 pounds. The sport of dragon boating is over 2000 years old with its origins steeped in tradition. In addition to the dragon boat races, each team will have the opportunity to participate in five other fun team-building activities. These activities will vary and will include problem-solving, non-athletic as well as physically challenging. There will be Something for Everyone regardless of their fitness level or athletic abilities! By popular demand, the returning events include the popular YMCA giant inflatables: Human Foosball and Bounce Volleyball along with Dodgeball. Two new events will be added to the mix to create a variety of activities including mind teasers and less physical activities so that everyone can participate.

The Y organizes and facilitates all team activities, provides all the equipment, rules and instructions as well as a team tent, water & ice and event t-shirt. Tiffany and Company Coming To The Woodlands

The world’s most distinctive package is coming to The Woodlands Market Street!

Tiffany & Co., whose jewels have adorned women from film stars to first ladies, has announced it will open in the shopping and entertainment destination in November.

Tiffany & Co’s Market Street store, its second in the Houston area and sixth in Texas, will showcase the prestigious jeweler’s collection of engagement rings, diamonds, watches, men’s items, accessories and gifts, all presented to shoppers in the treasured Tiffany Blue Box®, a retail tradition that dates back to founder Charles Tiffany who mandated the coveted boxes could only be acquired with a Tiffany purchase.

“We’ve studied The Woodlands and Market Street, in particular, for quite some time,” says Kerry Tropeano of Tiffany & Co. “Market Street presents an impressive collection of retailers and restaurants – one we’re proud to be a part of.”

The new Tiffany & Co. store will open in space previously occupied by Z Gallerie. Renovation to the 4,000-square-foot space, which includes the addition of a dramatic new entrance, is expected to be completed by November. Z Gallerie has relocated to a corner space across from Tommy Bahama Café & Emporium.

“We are always looking to create an experience that presents a collection of retailers unlike any other shopping destination in the region,” explains Market Street General Manager Jill Liccioni. “To be successful as a leisure destination, you need a real ‘wow’ factor. Certainly the addition of Tiffany & Co. gives us that.”

Maintaining Market Street’s status as a premier shopping destination means offering stores and boutiques shoppers simply can’t find on every corner, Liccioni adds.

Market Street is home to Texas’ only Tommy Bahama Cafe & Emporium and one of two Norton Ditto stores in Houston among its collection of more than 70 fashion retailers, boutiques and restaurants, several of which are locally owned and operated.

In December, Market Street welcomed the posh, 70-room AVIA boutique hotel. Other recent additions include LMD Boutique, Langford Market, Stadia Sports Grill and Bar, The Madison Boutique, Bobby Chan and Glo Sun Spa.
