Update on Creekside Park Village Grand Opening in The Woodlands
The nation’s top singer of cowboy songs, Michael Martin Murphey will headline a three-hour, free-to-the-public concert from 3-6 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2007 as part of the Grand Opening Celebration of the new Village of Creekside Park in The Woodlands. The concert will be held in the new Rob Fleming Lodge in Rob Fleming Park, located near the entrance to the new village on Gosling Road. Both the free concert and the Grand Opening Celebration are being sponsored by The Woodlands Development Company.
Entitled “Music from Kerrville - An Outdoor Family Experience”, the concert is being produced by Kerrville Folk Festival Founder, Rod Kennedy. The concert will also include Floyd Domino’s All-Star Western Swing Band with mandolin virtuoso, Paul Glasse as special guest, and to open, the appealing and innovative quartet of Terri Hendrix. All are regular performers at the Kerrville Folk Festival, a Texas tradition for the past 37 years.
Murphey was an original 1972 performer at the festival’s first concerts. Songs like “Wildfire” (1975), “Carolina in the Pines” (1976), “Cherokee Fiddle” (1977), and “What’s Forever For” (1982) catapulted Murphey to the top of the country charts. Floyd Domino made his Kerrville debut in 1974 as pianist with Asleep at the Wheel in that band’s first outdoor concert, while the Terri Hendrix foursome first played the renowned festival in 1999 and has returned nearly every year since.
The concert is part of the free, day-long celebration of the Grand Opening of the new Village of Creekside Park from 10 am - 6 pm on Saturday, October 20, 2007 in Rob Fleming Park. Other featured events include Showcase of Homes events in Wilde Creek and the gated community of Carlton Woods Creekside, tethered hot air balloon rides, rock-climbing walls, water-related activities such as kayaking and fishing demos and a Mini-Sailboat Regatta on Rob Fleming Pond, children’s crafts and activities at Camp Creekside, and the First Annual Great Creekside Campout, an overnight camping experience.
